Being an island until the eighteenth century, when it was connected to the mainland, Rovinj has developed as a fishing port. It is the most attractive resort on the coast of Istria, and its main attraction is the Venetian-style architecture dating back from XIV and XVIII centuries. Rovinj is home to the largest cigarette manufacturer in Croatia, which is also the only provider of jobs in the city. For many visitors, the main pleasure is a simple ride around the old city and explore the narrow alleys.
