Opatija (old name: St. Jakob, Abbazia) is a popular summer and winter resort, in Croatia, Istria in the north-east, near the port of Rijeka and 84 km south-east of Trieste by train. It is situated in Kvarner Bay (Quarnero or Carnaro) Učka sheltered mountain (Monte Maggiore Vojak reach the top 1401 m) and is surrounded by beautiful woods of laurel.
